Our History

Over the years, KOS has built a reputation for launching forward-thinking initiatives across social and healthcare services, psychiatry, rehabilitation, diagnostics and acute care.

2002

The Group is Founded

The vision: to create a hub for private healthcare, offering innovative and personalised services.

KOS was established in 2002 under the name HSS – Holding Sanità e Servizi, led by Claudio Stabon and Giuseppe Vailati Venturi, with Professor Piero Micossi at the helm.

2003

First Three Nursing Homes in Liguria

These first nursing homes set the tone for a consistent focus on quality and the wellbeing of each resident.

In 2003, KOS acquired its first three residential care facilities in Liguria, marking its entry into the elderly and frail care sector.

2004

Entry into Psychiatric Rehabilitation

The Group committed to supporting patients on their journey towards mental and physical recovery through tailored care pathways.

In 2004, KOS expanded into psychiatric rehabilitation with the acquisition of Redancia, a company operating residential facilities in Liguria.

2006

Acquisition of Anni Azzurri

Anni Azzurri brought valuable expertise and resources to help address the increasingly complex needs of elderly care.

With the full acquisition of Anni Azzurri in 2006, KOS expanded its reach nationwide and became one of the leading private providers in the nursing home sector.

2007

Strengthening Rehabilitation with Santo Stefano

With a multidisciplinary and technology-driven approach, KOS responded to the evolving rehabilitation needs of its patients.

In 2007, KOS consolidated its presence in rehabilitation by acquiring Santo Stefano, a long-established organisation in the Marche region.

2009

A New Name: KOS

Inspired by Hippocrates’ legacy to shape the future of modern medicine.

In 2009, the Group rebranded as KOS, inspired by the Greek island where Hippocrates - the father of modern medicine - was born.

2019

International Expansion in Germany

This marked a major step in KOS’s international growth and presence in European healthcare.

In 2019, KOS entered the German market through the full acquisition of Charleston Holding, a company operating 53 elderly care facilities across the country.

Today

Private Healthcare Alongside the Public Sector

Today, the Group complements the public healthcare system with specialised expertise, a widespread local presence, and a strong focus on person-centred care.

In recent years, KOS has continued to grow by acquiring and developing new healthcare and social care facilities and introducing innovative services such as telemedicine across all areas of care.
